LiPaPo 5: Spirits of the Dead

Hello all~ this is the LiPaPo series, standing for Little Pagan Post. Every day I will post a short little post, exploring an aspect of my beliefs and practices. I hope you enjoy them ~ kitty hugs to all~ Joouna

Today I have been thinking about the spirits of those who have passed away. As I wrote yesterday, I believe that some of the guardian and guide spirits we may have around us are actually spirits of our ancestors. Generally, concerning the path of the spirit after death, I believe that the spirit will leave the body, perhaps float around on earth for a while before finding their way. They may choose to rest for a while in the presence of the Gods, then move on and be reborn again. Alternatively they could choose/be called to become guardian or guide spirits, as for example the case of yesterday’s post. I refer to those who have left their previous life but not yet been “reassigned” to the next as the “spirits of those who passed”.

While I often sense deities and other divine messenges, guardians and guides, I am not a medium at all. In areas where many spirits of the passed may be present, I wil feel uneasy. Although that may equally just be my imagination. The realm of the dead is just not something I am connected to in any way… nor do I desire to be. I think that if a soul is already passed and is moving on, we should let them be. Of course their passing should be honoured, but afterwards, both parties must accept it and move on.

On the other hand, I sometimes read stories about how skilled mediums give great blessings and comfort to their clients, which I respect them for. In those cases, establishing some contact indeed seems to be the right thing to do. Perhaps those are cases where there are unfinished issues that cause distress? Oh well, it is not my area of expertise, and therefore, out of respect to the passed souls, I will not attempt to blunder into their realm.
